Educator Needs Survey and COVID-19 Update

With school canceled for the remainder of the academic year, we at MAE are now focused on ensuring educators remain supported during this challenging time. We’re exploring new professional development opportunities to share and working to gather data on how we can best assist educators.

EDUCATOR NEEDS SURVEY | To that end, we’ve developed an Educator Needs Survey. These school closures have put into sharp relief the inequities we’ve always known existed and it’s crucial we obtain a deeper understanding of the myriad experiences students and educators are having across Mississippi. With that in mind, we ask that you please take this short survey about how the COVID-19 school closures have impacted you and your students. Please pass this survey along to your colleagues and friends. Survey participants do not need to be a member of MAE. The survey will remain open through May 1, 2020.

You can find the Educator Needs Survey here.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT | Join The Center on Great Teachers & Leaders for their webinar series, Teaching and Leading in the Time of COVID-19. Their first webinar is tomorrow, Thursday, April 16, and looks at strategies for supporting educator resilience and trauma-informed self-care. You can register for that webinar here.

MDE WEBINARS: Review of State Board of Education Actions | The Mississippi Department of Education hosted two webinars today to review the State Board of Education (SBE) actions taken on March 26 related to assessment, accountability, graduation requirements, course grades and licensure requirements. In addition to an overview of SBE actions, MDE staff addressed questions submitted in advance.

Questions are posted in the COVID-19 Guidance and Q&A section of the MDE website, www.mdek12.org/COVID19. You may view the recorded webinars and back-up materials at the links below.
