BRANDON, MS — MAE-endorsed candidate for House District 60 Fred Shanks won a decisive victory in the Tuesday, March 13, run-off in the special election to replace former Representative John Moore.

“We recognized Mr. Shanks’ support of public schools, and felt he would be a great advocate for education in Mississippi,” said Joyce Helmick, MAE President. “Apparently, the voters of District 60 were equally impressed. Mr. Shanks won 1155-821.”

“It is important that those who serve recognize the importance of offering every student the opportunity for an excellent education. We believe Mr. Shanks does just that.”

“We are looking forward to working with him to make our public schools the very best they can be,” she said, “and we congratulate him on this victory!”

The Mississippi Association of Educators has endorsed five individuals running in special elections for the legislature this year. Of those endorsed, four have been elected.
