JACKSON, MS. — The District Survey Subcommittee of the Student Testing Task Force is slated to meet on Wednesday, July 18, at 10:00 a.m. to discuss the content of a proposed survey to send out to school districts in the fall. MAE President Joyce Helmick volunteered to serve on the subcommittee.
The survey was proposed in an effort to gain a more reliable measure of the amount of instructional time that is being devoted to district testing, state-mandated testing, and test prep. Numerous complaints of excessive diversion of instruction prompted the survey.
The meeting will be live-streamed at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJW2DTReF-JELb_gpeVJhFw.
A total of 30 MAE members submitted commentary on the current state testing process, and many of those included complaints of the loss of instructional time due to testing.
