CLARKSDALE, MS. — Long time MAE member Rena Butler was honored Monday, May 7, with a Building Dedication at Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale.
The new Health Science Annex Building is named for Ms Butler in honor of her life’s dedication to advocacy for not only the children of her community, but also for the entire Coahoma Community College, where she has served on their Board of Trustees for many years.
The Rena Butler Health Science Annex Building, which is located near the hospital, was a $1.3 million dollar project to bring the health sciences building in close proximity to the Health Service area in Clarksdale. Coahoma County Board of Supervisors members and community college officials worked collaboratively to complete the project in five years.
Ms. Butler believes no day should be wasted by being idle, she works throughout her community and the City of Clarksdale to promote positive change.
Ms. Butler served in the Mississippi Association of Educators as a local officer and also at the state level as MAE Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, and NEA Director.
