Supporting a National Spelling Bee Champion

Dear MAE Family,

When our Board made the decision to discontinue MAE’s sponsorship of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, it was with the hope that it would continue under worthy sponsorships and involve more community participation. As you may have learned, our idea proved to be a good one with the announced sponsorship of The Commercial Dispatch and management now provided by the Columbus/Lowndes Chamber of Commerce.

I want to assure you that our dedication to a successful Mississippi Spelling Bee has not waned. We are sharing with the new group the knowledge that is ours from the many years of sponsorship we enjoyed. Our own Field Director, Ms. Teresa Robinson, is now, and has been, in close contact with the new organizers and has pledged to work with them to make sure the Spelling Bee is a terrific experience for everyone involved.

During this time, we feel our resources are best spent to keep our public school children safe and well educated. In order to reach our goal, we must make sure educators are provided every resource to succeed and that includes safe, healthy workspaces and appropriate compensation

Our focus will be on doing our part to ensure Mississippi’s public education system is thriving and producing graduates equipped to succeed to their highest potential.

That way, we believe Mississippi will one day be home to the National Spelling Bee Champion.

My best to each of you,

ANTONIO CASTANON LUNA

MAE Executive Director
