Focused Support at Coahoma and Clarksdale High Schools

At Coahoma High School, the team hosts “FAFSA Days in December where they work alongside counselors, College and Career Readiness CCR teachers, and career coaches to guide students through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA process. The 2024 FAFSA recently opened and is the only way college students can access financial aid from the federal government and be considered for grants, loans, and some scholarships. Every year, more than 17 million U.S. students fill out the application.

The goal of these efforts is to empower students in the Delta—a region historically challenged by educational and economic hurdles—by providing them with the tools and information they need to pursue post-secondary education. The team recognizes that many students face community challenges outside of school, and they are committed to offering resources that can open doors to more and better opportunities.

Innovation with the New Mobile Unit

The introduction of the first vehicle, the Get2College Mobile unit, will be on the road in late February and will mark a new chapter for Get2College. Funded by the Walton Family Foundation, the mobile unit will expand the teams reach, making it easier to support students in rural areas. Equipped with two office spaces, a kitchenette, and an outdoor monitor for educational media, the mobile unit is a rolling resource center thats ready to meet the community wherever they are. With the mobile unit, the team will be able to focus on serving students in Carroll, Coahoma, Harold, Holmes, Tallahatchie, Tunica, and Quitman counties. The mobile unit will complement the teams ongoing work by increasing access to financial aid and college resources directly in communities that need it most.
