This is what your strong advocacy does.

Meeting with House Speaker Philip Gunn

This is what your strong, positive activism does – House Speaker Philip Gunn (top left) requested a meeting with us to discuss the educator pay raise bill last night.

We were more than happy to oblige. Several members of the MAE Power Hour crew joined President Erica Jones, our lobbyists, and MAE staffers for the meeting. He and Education Chair Richard Bennet and Vice Chair Kent McCartey explained the background of the original House Bill 530 and the expected legislative process going forward.

The House requested conference with the Senate when they sent the amended version back to the House. Three members of each chamber will work to iron out any differences in the two versions of the bill before it comes back for a vote. We are pleased the Speaker recognized the need to address our concerns in person. All MAE members are invited weekly to join our Tuesday evening Power Hour sessions from 6-7.  Watch your email this weekend.
