January 28, 9:00 A.M., Sparkman Auditorium, State Agriculture Museum.
The Mississippi Department of Education has proposed a number of changes to the state’s Academic Standards for Social Studies and has set a Public Hearing on the matter. MAE has entered notice that we disagree with these changes, many of which target the teaching of civil rights issues. The Public Hearing is set for January 28, at 9:00 a.m. in Sparkman Auditorium of the Mississippi Agricultural Museum.
We encourage our members to review the changes (see the link below to the Secretary of State’s Office), and respond either in person by registering to speak or online by entering comments. The links for these actions are below. Mississippi residents wishing to speak at the hearing must register by 9 a.m. on January 25. MDE says speakers are expected to address the content of the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards for Social Studies 2021.
