Two MAE members honored by their schools

MAE President Erica Jones and MAE member Yolanda Bell were recently recognized
Published: December 15, 2021

We have some exciting news to share!

Our own MAE President Erica Jones was named Byram Middle School Parent of the Year, and MAE member Yolanda Bell was recognized as Teacher of the Year by the Hinds County School District as well as for her school.

Of course, President Jones is a familiar face here at MAE and wherever public education decisions are being made, but she is also a familiar face at Byram Middle School where her son is a student. It’s not hard to find President Jones on the basketball sidelines cheering or doing volunteer community work with the Junior League. There is a saying that goes, “If you want to get something done well, ask a busy person to do it.” That would be President Jones.

Ms. Bell, a graduate of the MAE Teacher Leadership Institute, teaches Pre-K students at Bolton Edwards Elementary Middle School where she was named Teacher of the Year, in addition to being honored as the Hinds County School District Teacher of the Year. It is becoming more and more evident that a strong Pre-K foundation is an indicator of a child’s future success in school and life. We are not surprised that she has been honored for her work in one of the most important areas of a child’s education.

We are proud of the work of these educators to support our students in Hinds County and across Mississippi.
